The American Diary of a Japanese Girl: An Annotated Edition - Yone Noguchi, Edward Marx, Laura Franey While Noguchi's little novel is hardly great art, I found this, the first novel written by a Japanese individual living in the United States, surprisingly interesting as both an important historical document and a sprightly chronicle of a most-opinionated and vivacious young woman touring turn-of-the-century San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. The annotations and editorial content are immensely helpful and informative and added a great deal to my enjoyment.
